We are excited that the Forsyth County Bar Association will be again involved in the construction of a Habitat House in the Smith Farms Development (See information below).  This time, we don't have to raise any money!  There are many opportunities for you to volunteer your services.

We are building in the Smith Farms Development, which already consists of 141 homes and Habitat purchased the remaining lots to finish out the neighborhood. This was made possible by the NSP (Neighborhood Stabilization Program) Grant we received.  This grant allows the purchase of foreclosure houses and property.  We have also bought a few existing houses in the development that will be purchased by qualified Habitat families in addition to the new construction.

The houses being build are being funded with NSP dollars and there are many build partners this year. In addition to the Bar Association, Wake Forest University and Medical Center; a contingency of Kernersville Churches; and additional volunteer support from community groups such as Wachovia/Wells Fargo, Pepsi, BB& T will be participating.

Work on site will begin on Wednesday, September 8th!  We will raise the walls on the foundation that first week.  The minimum age for volunteers is 18!  After raising the walls, we will erect roof trusses, install roof sheating, paper and shingles.  We will install house wrap, vinyl siding, windows, exterior doors, porch beam decking and railings.

Habitat anticipates that finishing the house will take about ten weeks (through early November).  Crews will be working every Tuesday through Saturday until the house is finished. In general, 8-10 workers are needed each shift, but up to 15 allowed.  We encourage firms to take a day.  Just give us a call and let us know which day you want.
